Ultra Primer - Epoxy Primer for Concrete & Masonry

Ultra Primer is a high-performance epoxy primer designed for concrete floors in garages, warehouses and commercial environments. It delivers strong adhesion, seals the substrate and provides a reliable base for epoxy and polyaspartic coating systems.

Achieve professional-grade epoxy flooring results with Ultra Primer, the essential first step for any successful application. This 100% solids, two-pack, high-performance epoxy primer is specifically designed for priming concrete and masonry substrates. Formulated for superior adhesion, moisture tolerance, and chemical resistance, Ultra Primer provides an ideal foundation for subsequent epoxy coatings in commercial and industrial settings. Its low-viscosity formula promotes excellent substrate penetration and strong mechanical bonding, enhancing coating performance and longevity.

Although Ultra Primer is suitable for application on floors with limited moisture exposure, it should not be used as a moisture barrier; Ultrabarrier is recommended in those situations. Furthermore, Ultra Primer is a thickened primer that can fill minor surface irregularities and grout lines in tiled floors, providing durability and strong adhesion to damp concrete, even in areas subject to vehicle traffic.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

How to Apply Ultra Primer

  1. Ensure the concrete substrate has cured for a minimum of 21 days.
  2. Surface must be structurally sound, dry, and free from laitance, dust, oil, grease, and coatings.
  3. Mechanically prepare surface via diamond grinding or shot blasting. Acid etching is acceptable where mechanical prep is not feasible. Prime immediately after preparation to avoid contamination.
  4. Stir Part A thoroughly. Add Part B and mix using a power mixer for at least 2-3 minutes.
  5. Apply using brush, roller, or spray within the pot life. Avoid application below 5°C or in high humidity (>85%).
  6. Clean tools immediately with solvent before curing begins.

However, we are not responsible for the colour accuracy of the device you are viewing our swatches on. These variations arise due to different computer monitors and devices (make, model and technology, as well as resolution, contrast and brightness control settings) in much the same way a scan will differ from an original image and a colour photocopy. Furthermore, coatings can exhibit variation in perceived colour depending on gloss level and application method. If you require a very specific colour match, please make your selection via actual swatches and colour boards available at our showroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ultra Primer used for?

Ultra Primer is a high-performance epoxy primer designed to prepare concrete and masonry surfaces before applying epoxy, polyaspartic, flake, metallic, or solid colour floor coatings. It improves adhesion, seals the substrate, and helps extend the life of the flooring system.

Why do I need an epoxy primer for concrete floors?

An epoxy primer creates a strong bond between the concrete substrate and the coating system. It improves adhesion, reduces coating failures, and helps achieve a smoother, more durable epoxy floor finish.

Can Ultra Primer be applied to damp concrete?

Yes. Ultra Primer can be applied to slightly damp concrete surfaces with moisture levels up to 5%. However, it is not designed as a moisture barrier. For areas with rising dampness or hydrostatic pressure, ULTRABARRIER should be used.

What is the coverage rate of Ultra Primer?

Ultra Primer covers approximately 5–7 m² per litre at 150 microns dry film thickness. Actual coverage may vary depending on surface texture, porosity, preparation, and application method.

What is the difference between Ultra Primer and ULTRABARRIER?

Ultra Primer is a bonding primer designed to improve adhesion between concrete and coating systems. ULTRABARRIER is a moisture and hydrostatic pressure barrier designed for areas affected by rising dampness or higher moisture conditions.

What is the complete ULTRAKOTE epoxy flooring system?

The ULTRAKOTE epoxy flooring system includes Ultra Primer for substrate bonding, UltraShield as the main coating layer, optional flakes or metallic finishes, and a protective clear coat such as UVSeal or PureGuard Clear Coat for added durability and protection.
