Step-by-Step System Application Guide
Preparation is the single most important stage of applying any successful industrial coating system!
- Mechanical Prep: Diamond grinding is highly recommended. It opens the concrete pores, removes existing loose coatings, and ensures deep primer penetration.
- Patching: Patch and fill any cracks or spalls using a structural compound like Sikadur 31 CF Normal before coating.
- Primer Coat: Apply 1x coat of your Sikafloor 264 as an anchor/primer layer using a 12mm nap roller and allow it to cure. (Note: If rising dampness is present, use a specialized moisture barrier primer like Sikafloor 158W).
- Base Coat & Broadcast: Return the next day to apply 1x thick base coat of Sikafloor 264. While the film is completely wet, immediately broadcast your flake chips evenly across the floor until your desired density (Partial or Full) is achieved. Allow to cure for 16–18 hours. (Important: If the recoat window exceeds 36 hours, light sanding is required before proceeding).
- Clean Up: Clean, scrape upright flake edges flat, and thoroughly vacuum all loose flake particles away.
- Clear Top Coat: Apply 1x squeegee coat or 2x roller-applied coats of premium Sikafloor 169 clear resin to lock the flake down into a seamless, high-gloss wear layer. Aluminum oxide anti-slip media can be added to the topcoat if your project requires a verified, higher slip-resistant texture rating.
- Cure Time: Floor is trafficable after 24 hours. Avoid parking cars, boats, or trailers for 7 days after the final coat.
Important Notes
- Not suitable for unsealed external UV-exposed driveways unless modified with UV-stable topcoat
- Concrete condition directly affects coverage
- Proper grinding is essential for long-term performance
- Moisture issues must be treated before application
