Recommended Preparation Method
Preparation is the key to achieving a long-lasting floor-coating system.
Diamond grinding is the recommended method of preparing new & old substrates prior to applying Sikafloor 264. The purpose is to remove any flaking paint and contamination, open concrete pores, and allow the first coat to penetrate deep into the surface.
Acid etching may be used as an alternative. Click here for more information.
Recommended diamond tooling grits:
- 30/40 grit for hard concrete
- 80 grit on soft concrete
- PCD plugs to remove flaking paint, then grinding shoes to smooth the floor
To preserve the premium high-gloss appearance of your floor after application:
- All harsh chemical, fuel, or oil spillages must be removed immediately.
- Clean the floor regularly using rotary brushes, mechanical scrubbers, scrubber-dryers, high-pressure washers, or standard wash-and-vacuum techniques.
- Only use suitable floor detergents and compatible floor waxes. Avoid highly abrasive cleaning tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is this kit suitable for a DIY beginner?
Yes! This package has been specifically designed for DIY applications. It includes all the tools and materials you need. For floors over 50sqm, we recommend having a second person to help. If you get stuck, our expert tech support team is available to guide you through every step.
2. How long does the epoxy take to dry before I can walk on it?
Sikafloor 264 is typically touch dry within 4–6 hours at 20°C. You can walk on it lightly after 24 hours, and it reaches full chemical resistance after 7 days. Avoid heavy traffic or vehicle use until fully cured.
3. Do I need to prepare my concrete floor first?
Yes — surface preparation is the most critical step for a long-lasting result. We strongly recommend diamond grinding to open the concrete pores and remove any existing sealers or contaminants. Acid etching can be used as an alternative for smaller projects.
4. Will this kit cover my entire garage floor?
This kit covers up to 70sqm with two coats. A standard single garage is approximately 15–20sqm, and a double garage is approximately 35–40sqm, so this kit is ideal for larger garages, workshops, or commercial spaces. Coverage may vary depending on the porosity of your concrete.
5. Can I add colour to this kit?
Yes! Sikafloor 264 is available in a wide range of colours. Please refer to the colour card above or contact us to discuss your colour options before ordering.
6. Does this kit include anti-slip protection?
The package with accessories and the package with accessories and primer both include Ultrakote anti-slip media, which is mixed into the final coat. If your project requires a specific slip rating (R10, R11, R12), please contact us and we can advise on the appropriate grit media.
7. Can I pick this up from your store?
Yes! Local pickup is always available from our Silverwater showroom (6 Giffard Street, Silverwater NSW 2128). Additionally, because Epoxy Warehouse is an authorized Sika distributor, we offer depot pickup from any official Sika warehouse across Australia for Sika products. We also provide fast nationwide shipping with same-day dispatch on most orders.
8. What if I have questions during my installation?
Our expert tech support team is here to help. You can reach us via the live chat on our website or contact us directly. We're real installers — not a call centre — so you'll get practical, hands-on advice for your specific project.
