Approximate smooth-system coverage: The 20kg supplied in this package provides approximately 50 m² at the specified two-coat consumption of 0.4 kg/m².

Actual coverage varies with concrete porosity, surface profile, preparation, application method and wastage. Non-slip and higher-build systems require different material quantities.

Application Guide

Prepare the Concrete: The substrate must be sound, dry, clean and free from laitance, dust, oil, grease and other contamination. Concrete or screed should have a minimum compressive strength of 25 N/mm². Mechanically prepare the surface using enclosed light shot blasting or diamond grinding to a minimum CSP2 where specified.

1. Check Moisture: Substrate moisture should not exceed 75% RH in accordance with ASTM F2170 / AS1884:2012. Slab-on-ground concrete should have an effective damp-proof membrane.

2. Repair and Clean: Repair cracks, damaged areas and surface defects using suitable compatible repair materials such as Flowtex F1 Mortar.  After mechanical preparation, thoroughly vacuum the floor to remove dust and loose particles.

3. Apply Primer Where Required: Flowprime AU is required only where specified, such as on porous substrates. Follow the current Flowprime AU technical data sheet for mixing, application rates and overcoat requirements. Where primer is used, Flowcoat OP should be applied within the specified overcoat window. Flowcrete's supplied specification states a maximum of 24 hours at 20°C.

4. Mix Flowcoat OP

Flowcoat OP is a two-component epoxy system supplied in pre-weighed packs.

  • Stir Base A to re-disperse any settlement.
  • Add Hardener B to Base A.
  • Mix using a slow-speed drill with a helical mixer head for approximately 90 seconds.
  • Avoid excessive air entrainment during mixing.
  • Add between 2 - 7% (if required depending on conditions) Xylene and mix for a further 30 seconds

At approximately 20°C, mixed material should be used within approximately 20 minutes. Working time decreases at higher temperatures.

5. Apply the Coating: Apply Flowcoat OP using the appropriate 10–12mm nap roller and/or squeegee at the specified coverage rate.

For the standard smooth system, apply:

  • First coat: 0.2 kg/m²
  • Second coat: 0.2 kg/m²

Do not use a microfibre roller where prohibited by the manufacturer's application specification.

6. Apply the Second Coat: Apply the second coat within the manufacturer's specified overcoat window. At 20°C, the maximum stated overcoat time is 24 hours.

7. Allow to Cure: Curing times vary with temperature and conditions. Refer to the curing table below before allowing foot or vehicle traffic onto the finished floor.

Recommended Equipment

  • Digital scales where accurate weight measurement is required
  • Industrial vacuum for dust removal
  • Spike shoes where required for the selected system

Important Application Conditions

  • Application temperature: 5°C–35°C.
  • Substrate temperature must remain at least 3°C above dew point.
  • Temperature should not fall below 5°C during the first 24 hours.
  • Maximum overcoat time at 20°C: 24 hours.
  • Avoid excessive airflow during application.
  • Maintain adequate ventilation.
  • Protect the finished floor from water for 5 days at 20°C.
  • Flowcoat OP is not UV stable unless otherwise specified and may discolour when exposed to UV. UV Stable clear topcoat like Flowseal UV is recommended for external areas.

Curing Times

  • 10°C: 48 hrs foot traffic, 96 hrs vehicles, 12 days chemical cure
  • 20°C: 24 hrs foot traffic, 72 hrs vehicles, 7 days chemical cure
  • 30°C: 18 hrs foot traffic, 48 hrs vehicles, 6 days chemical cure

Lower temperatures increase curing times.

Published P1, >P3 and >P4 slip classifications depend on the specified coating build, aggregate type, aggregate size, application rate and installation method.

For projects requiring a specific slip-resistance classification, the complete flooring system should be designed and installed in accordance with the applicable manufacturer's specification and relevant AS 4586-2013 and SA HB 198:2014 requirements.

Yes. Flowcrete Flowcoat OP can be installed as a smooth P1 system or with specified aggregates for higher slip resistance. The 0.35mm light non-slip system is rated >P3, while the 1.5mm heavy non-slip system is rated >P4 when installed according to the specified Flowcrete system requirements.

How long does Flowcrete Flowcoat OP take to cure before vehicle traffic?

Curing time depends on temperature. At approximately 20°C, Flowcrete Flowcoat OP can generally receive foot traffic after 24 hours and vehicle traffic after 72 hours, with full chemical cure taking approximately 7 days. Lower temperatures increase curing times

No. The Flowcrete Flowcoat OP Double Garage Epoxy Floor Package includes 2 x 10kg Flowcoat OP epoxy kits. Primer, slip-resistant aggregate, concrete repair products and application equipment are not included and may be required depending on the selected system and condition of the substrate.
