EPIREZ Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123
EPIREZ Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123 is a solvent-free, low-viscosity epoxy primer and sealer designed to improve surface wetting, penetration and adhesion. It is suitable for a range of building and construction applications, including porous concrete, blasted steel, floor toppings and concrete repair systems.
Its low viscosity helps the epoxy penetrate porous surfaces, while its ability to bond to both dry and damp surfaces makes it a practical primer and sealer for a range of concrete and steel applications.
Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123 is compatible with most EPIREZ® binders, coatings and adhesives. It can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray equipment.
Key Features and Benefits
- Solvent-free: Contains 100% solids according to the technical data.
- Low viscosity: Helps the epoxy penetrate porous surfaces.
- Dry and damp surface bonding: Developed to bond to both dry and damp surfaces.
- Fast hardening: Hardening time is 24 hours at 25°C.
- Low modulus: Formulated with a low modulus characteristic.
- Very low permeability: Water permeability is stated as 4 × 10-17 m/s.
- Easy mixing: Uses a 1:2 Hardener-to-Compound mixing ratio.
- Concrete penetration: Low viscosity supports penetration into porous concrete.
- Multiple uses: Suitable for priming, sealing, impregnation and concrete repair applications.
Where Can EPIREZ Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123 Be Used?
Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123 is designed for a range of building, construction and concrete repair applications.
- Primer for porous concrete

Coverage
| Surface | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Concrete | 4–8 m² per litre |
| Steel | 10 m² per litre |
Coverage can vary depending on the surface and its porosity. The concrete coverage range reflects the 4–8 m² per litre estimating figure provided for the product.
Application of EPIREZ Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123
Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123 can be applied using:
- Brush
- Roller
- Airless spray equipment
After the initial primer coat becomes touch-dry, approximately 6 hours at 25°C, a finishing system can be applied. The finishing system should be applied within 24 hours.
Concrete Surface Preparation
Proper surface preparation helps the primer bond effectively to the concrete.
- Remove old paint and all loose material.
- Remove oil and grease contamination using a suitable degreaser.
- Hose off using high-pressure water.
- Captive blast clean to expose firmly held aggregate.
- Allow the surface to dry before application.
- New concrete must be at least 28 days old.
Steel Surface Preparation
Steel surfaces should be free from oil and grease before abrasive blasting.
- Abrasive blast clean to AS 1627.4:2005.
- Prepare the steel to a Class 2½ near-white metal finish.
- Complete coating of prepared steel within 4 hours.
Mixing Instructions
EPIREZ® Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123 uses a 1 part Hardener to 2 parts Compound mixing ratio by weight or volume.
- Precondition the product to between 18°C and 25°C before use.
- Pour the Hardener into the Compound container.
- Mix thoroughly for 5 minutes using a suitable blade fitted to a 400 rpm power mixer.
- Ensure all material around the bottom and sides of the container is incorporated.
- Avoid aerating the mixture during mixing.
Full units are recommended because the components are pre-measured. Large packs should be accurately proportioned.
Drying and Hardening Times
- Work time: 30 minutes at 25°C
- Touch-dry for finishing system: Approximately 6 hours at 25°C
- Hardening time: 24 hours at 25°C
- Finishing system application: Within 24 hours
Concrete Bond and Permeability
Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123 has a stated concrete bond strength of 2.7 MPa, with failure occurring in the concrete.
The stated water permeability is 4 × 10-17 m/s, with good resistance to chloride ion penetration.
Important Product Considerations
- Do not aerate the mixture during mixing.
- Avoid air entrapment to reduce the risk of bubbles in the finished product.
- New concrete must be at least 28 days old.
- Prepared steel should be coated within 4 hours.
- Apply the finishing system after the primer becomes touch-dry and within 24 hours.
