  • 1 x Large Mixer - Epoxy coating products require power mixing to achieve the desired chemical reaction. This mixer attaches to a standard drill. We recommend cleaning the mixer with thinners after each use.

Professional Application Guide

Step 1: Surface Preparation
Diamond grind the concrete floor with coarse abrasive to remove existing coatings and create a keyed profile for optimal adhesion.

Step 2: Repair & Fill
Fill all cracks, holes, and imperfections with suitable concrete filler. Allow to cure completely.

Step 3: Prime the Surface
Apply one even coat of Ultrabarrier epoxy primer. Allow to cure as per product instructions.

Step 4: Base Coat & Aggregate Broadcast
Apply one coat of Ultrashield epoxy base coat. While still wet, evenly broadcast the entire 25kg of anti-slip media across the surface. Pro Tip: Use spike shoes to walk on wet epoxy without leaving marks.

Step 5: Remove Excess & Seal
After 12-16 hours, sweep and vacuum all loose anti-slip media. Apply two top coats of Ultrashield epoxy using a cross-rolling technique to fully encapsulate the aggregate.

⚠️ Critical Application Notes

  • Avoid Pooling - Do not leave puddles or pooled epoxy during top coating as this will drown the aggregate and reduce slip resistance
  • Complete Coverage - Ensure all anti-slip media is broadcast evenly for consistent P5/R12 rating across the entire floor
  • Temperature - Apply in temperatures between 10-30°C for optimal curing
  • Timeline - Allow 3-4 days to complete the full system depending on conditions
  • Cleaning Method - P5/R12 surfaces require pressure washing or water hose cleaning rather than mopping due to the high texture

What Australian Standard applies to slip resistance?

The main standard used in Australia for slip resistance of new floor surfaces is AS 4586:2013 — Slip resistance classification of new pedestrian surface materials. This standard defines how slip resistance is tested and classified using the wet pendulum test. It is referenced by the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and Standards Australia handbooks HB 197 & HB 198 when specifying minimum slip ratings for pedestrian surfaces.

What does a P5 rating mean?

Under AS 4586, surfaces are tested in wet conditions using a pendulum friction tester and given a P-rating from P0 (lowest) to P5 (highest). A P5 rating corresponds to very high slip resistance under wet conditions, with a Pendulum Value (BPN) greater than 54. This is the maximum slip resistance rating available and means the surface has excellent traction even when continuously wet.

What are the different P-rating levels?

P5 (>54 BPN): Very high slip resistance - Maximum rating
P4 (45-54 BPN): High slip resistance
P3 (35-44 BPN): Moderate slip resistance
P2 (25-34 BPN): Low slip resistance

How is slip resistance tested?

The wet pendulum test (Appendix A of AS 4586) simulates a human heel strike with a swinging arm and rubber slider that skids across a wet surface. The test produces an average British Pendulum Number (BPN) that is used to classify the surface's slip resistance level. This is the preferred test for rating surfaces that are expected to get wet.

Where is a P5/R12 rating required?

P5 & R12 ratings are required for areas with continuous wet conditions and high slip risk, including industrial kitchens, food processing facilities, abattoirs, butcher shops, meat processing areas, fuel refineries, pool surrounds, external shopping center ramps, brewery floors, and any area subject to frequent water, oils, or other liquids. These surfaces are almost impossible to mop and require pressure cleaning equipment for maintenance.
