Rapid-drying under tile waterproofing for wet areas and balconies

SikaTile-111 Rapid Proof is a water-based, Class III flexible waterproofing membrane for under tile and stone applications. Supplied in a 15L pail, it combines rapid drying with easy film build to help waterproof wet areas, balconies and podiums before tiling.

Keep your tiling project moving with a membrane that is ready for tiling approximately 2–3 hours after the final coat under laboratory conditions. Colour-change technology turns the coating from blue when wet to navy blue when dry, providing a useful visual drying indicator.

Key benefits

  • Rapid drying: ready for tiling 2–3 hours after the final coat at 23°C and 50% relative humidity.
  • Class III flexibility with greater than 300% flexible performance.
  • Excellent film build to help achieve the specified dry film thickness in two coats.
  • Colour: blue when wet and navy blue when dry.
  • Water-based, solvent-free, low-VOC and micro-fibre reinforced.
  • Suitable for residential and commercial under tile waterproofing applications.

Where can SikaTile-111 Rapid Proof be used?

Designed for waterproofing beneath tiles and stone in wet areas, balconies, podiums and similar applications. Suitable substrates include concrete, cement-based screeds and renders, fibre cement sheeting, ceramic tile underlay, GRC and AAC. Water-resistant plasterboard is suitable for internal applications only.

  • Bathrooms, showers and other internal wet areas.
  • Balconies and podiums beneath tiles or stone.
  • Concrete slabs, cement screeds and cement-based renders.
  • Fibre cement sheeting and ceramic tile underlay.
  • Water-resistant plasterboard for internal applications.
  • Suitable prepared existing tiles and other approved substrates.

Structural particleboard and timber flooring must be overlaid with suitable fibre cement sheeting or reinforced screed. Existing sound tiles require the specific substrate preparation detailed in the product data sheet. Follow Sika's substrate-specific preparation and priming instructions for every application.

Coverage and application specifications

  • Pack size: 15L pail.
  • Coverage: approximately 10m² per pail across two coats at the specified application rate.
  • Minimum application rate: 0.75L/m² per coat, in two coats.
  • Finished dry film thickness: 1.00mm.
  • Volume solids: 69%.
  • Wait before the second coat: approximately 2–2.5 hours.
  • Wait before tiling: approximately 2–3 hours after the final coat.
  • Material and ambient air temperature: above 5°C and below 35°C.
  • Application temperature: at least 3°C above the dew point.

Drying times are based on laboratory conditions of 23°C and 50% relative humidity. Actual drying times vary with site temperature and humidity. Maintain the specified coverage and film thickness rather than stretching the pail over a larger area.

Important limitations

This membrane is designed to be covered with tiles or stone, not used as an exposed UV-stable finish. Do not leave it exposed for longer than 30 days; install the covering as soon as possible to reduce the risk of damage. It is not suitable for submerged applications such as pools and spas.

Do not apply when rain or bad weather is imminent. Do not allow the product to freeze. Refer to Sika's current product data sheet for complete preparation, priming, detailing and application requirements..
