EPIREZ Supatuff™ Heavy Duty Epoxy Coating
EPIREZ® Supatuff™ Heavy Duty Epoxy Coating is a high-solids, high-build epoxy coating for demanding industrial and commercial environments. It provides excellent chemical and abrasion resistance on concrete, steel, timber and other suitable surfaces.
Supatuff™ can be used to create a hard-wearing, easy-clean surface in areas exposed to heavy foot traffic, rubber-tyred vehicles, chemical spillage and industrial conditions. It is suitable for applications including warehouses, vehicle workshops, plant rooms, car parks, food processing plants, dairies, abattoirs, refineries and water tanks and reservoirs.
The product was previously named EPIREZ Supatuff HD.

Coverage and Kit Sizes
The manufacturer's estimating data gives the following coverage:
| Kit | Colourpacks | Estimated Coverage | Film Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 L | 1 EPIREZ Colourpack | 22.5 m² | 2 × 150 μm DFT |
| 16 L | 2 EPIREZ Colourpacks | 45 m² | 2 × 150 μm DFT |
One EPIREZ® Colourpack is required for each 8 L kit. Two Colourpacks are required for each 16 L kit.
Actual product requirements can vary depending on the surface and application conditions.
Application of EPIREZ Supatuff
Supatuff Heavy Duty Epoxy Coating can be applied by:
- Brush
- Roller
- Airless spray
Apply a minimum of two coats to achieve 300 microns dry film thickness (DFT).
If required, the first coat can be thinned with up to 20% v/v EPIREZ® Epoxy Thinner.
For a non-slip finish, EPIREZ Patching & Flooring Mortar Aggregate (QA2) can be broadcast between coats using the manufacturer's specified “spread and sprinkle” method.
Important: Always refer to the current manufacturer's Technical Data Sheet (TDS) for complete mixing, preparation and application instructions before starting your project.
Mixing Instructions
- Add the complete contents of the selected EPIREZ Colourpack to the Compound.
- Mix thoroughly using a low-speed mixer at 400 rpm before adding the Hardener.
- Add the Hardener and mix thoroughly again.
- The mixing ratio is equal parts Hardener and Compound by volume.
Concrete Surface Preparation
Proper surface preparation is important when applying an epoxy coating.
- New concrete must be at least 28 days old.
- Remove old paint and all loose material.
- Remove oil and grease contamination with a suitable surface degreaser.
- Hose off using high-pressure water.
- Captive blast clean to expose firmly held aggregate to industry-accepted standards.
- Allow the surface to dry before application.
As an alternative, concrete can be acid etched using EPIREZ Concrete Etch & Cleaner. Neutralise the surface by washing with fresh water and allow it to dry.
Steel Surface Preparation
- Remove oil and grease from the surface.
- Abrasive blast clean in accordance with AS 1627.4:2005.
- Prepare to a Class 2½ near-white metal finish.
- Complete coating of the prepared steel within 4 hours.
Drying and Cure Times
At 25°C, the manufacturer's stated times are:
- Work time: 3 hours
- Tack-free time: 6 hours
- Recoat time: 16–48 hours
- Hardening time: 24 hours
- Cure time: 7 days
Allow the coating to cure for 7 days at 25°C before subjecting it to chemical exposure.
Chemical Resistance
When cured for 7 days at 25°C, the technical datasheet lists resistance to chemical spillage involving:
- Ammonia solution (20%)
- Sulphuric acid (30%)
- Hot water
- Aviation fuels
- Petrol
- Tannic acid
- Food emulsion
- Lubricating oil
- Sodium hydroxide (30%)
- Kerosene
- Lactic acid (5%)
- Sodium chloride (50%)
- Fuel oil
- Hydrochloric acid (20%)
- Acetic acid (5%)
- Toluene
Surface staining may result from exposure to some aggressive chemicals. Spills be removed and washed away quickly.
Potable Water and Slip Resistance
EPIREZ Supatuff Heavy Duty Epoxy Coating has been independently tested and meets the requirements of AS/NZS 4020:2005 for use in contact with potable water.
The product has also been tested by CSIRO and has a slip resistance rating of R12 according to AS 4586:2013 Appendix D.
Temperature Resistance
EPIREZ Supatuff Heavy Duty Epoxy Coating has a stated temperature resistance of up to 96°C dry heat.
The minimum application temperature specified by the manufacturer is 5°C.
Important Product Limitations
Before using Supatuff, check that it is suitable for your particular surface and operating conditions.
