EPIREZ Supatuff Acid Resistant Coating
EPIREZ® Supatuff Acid Resistant Coating is a high-solids epoxy coating designed for areas requiring strong resistance to acids, alkalis and solvents. It is designed as a 300–500 micron coating system for concrete walls, columns and pump footings, and can also be used as a sealer for concrete floors where extreme chemical resistance is required.
Supatuff Acid Resistant Coating is particularly suited to chemical containment and industrial environments where concrete surfaces may be exposed to aggressive chemicals. It resists a broad range of acids, including 98% sulphuric acid, as well as alkalis and solvents.
The coating can also be used over trowelled epoxy and aggregate systems made with EPIREZ® Acid Resistant Epoxy Mortar Binder. For areas exposed to ponding and mechanical damage, this system is recommended for additional surface protection. A non-slip finish can also be created by broadcasting selected aggregate between coats.
The product was previously named EPIREZ® Supatuff AR.

Coverage
| Pack Size | Estimated Coverage | Application |
|---|---|---|
| 4 L | 12 m² | 2 × 150 μm DFT coats |
The product information specifies an application system of 300–500 microns. The estimating figure provided is 12 m² per 4 L at two 150 μm DFT coats.
Application of EPIREZ® Supatuff Acid Resistant Coating
Supatuff Acid Resistant Coating can be applied by:
- Brush
- Roller
- Airless spray
Apply a minimum of two coats to achieve 300 micron DFT. Allow 8–24 hours between coats at 25°C.
For optimum chemical resistance, allow the coating to cure for 7 days at 25°C before exposure to chemicals. Longer curing times should be allowed at lower temperatures.
For a non-slip finish, broadcast EPIREZ® Patching & Flooring Mortar Aggregate or another selected aggregate between coats using the “spread and sprinkle” method.
Concrete Surface Preparation
Proper preparation is important for achieving a continuous, pinhole-free coating system.
- Remove previous coatings.
- Remove loose, crumbly material and drummy areas.
- New concrete must be at least 28 days old.
- Remove oil and grease using a suitable surface degreaser.
- Hose off using high-pressure water.
- Captive blast clean to expose firmly adhered aggregate.
- Etch the surface using EPIREZ® Concrete Etch & Cleaner.
- Neutralise by washing with fresh water.
- Allow the surface to dry.
- Repair damaged concrete, blowholes, honeycombing and cracks before coating.
Concrete surfaces should be repaired so the finished coating system is monolithic and free from pinholes.
Steel Surface Preparation
Steel should be abrasive blast cleaned to AS 1627 Part 4:2005 to a Class 3 white-metal finish, with a minimum profile height of 75–100 microns.
Priming
Prime concrete surfaces using EPIREZ® Acid Resistant Epoxy Binder at a coverage rate of approximately 6 m² per litre.
The primer should be touch-dry before applying Supatuff Acid Resistant Coating. Apply the coating within 24 hours of priming. If this period is exceeded, the sub-base should be reprimed.
Keep primed surfaces clean before applying the coating.
Mixing Instructions
The mixing ratio is 1 part Hardener to 3 parts Compound by volume.
- Precondition the product to between 18°C and 25°C before use.
- Review the application area and establish the volume required for the planned application rate.
- Add Hardener to Compound.
- Mix thoroughly using a low-speed 400 rpm power mixer.
- Ensure material from the container sides, lip and stirrer is fully incorporated.
- Avoid air entrapment during mixing.
Full units are recommended because the components are pre-measured.
Drying and Cure Times
- Work time at 25°C: 45 minutes
- Tack-free time at 25°C: 6 hours
- Recoat time at 25°C: 8–24 hours
- Hardening time at 25°C: 24 hours
- Full chemical resistance: 7 days at 25°C
- Foot traffic: 24 hours
