EPIREZ Multi-Purpose Epoxy Concrete Repair

EPIREZ Multi-Purpose Epoxy Concrete Repair is a high-strength epoxy mortar patching compound designed for repairing concrete and bonding a range of construction materials. Its non-sag, paste-like consistency makes it suitable for application to vertical and overhead surfaces by knife or trowel.

The equal-part epoxy system is designed for easy mixing and application. Once mixed, it forms a concrete-grey repair compound with excellent adhesion, good chemical and water resistance, and a non-shrink formulation.

Multi-Purpose Epoxy Concrete Repair can be used for damaged and honeycombed concrete, damaged factory floors, pipe repairs, and bonding tiles, metal, stone and timber to concrete.

The product was previously named EPIREZ® MULTI II.

Coverage and Kit Sizes

Kit Size Volume Estimated Coverage Application Thickness
3 kg 2 L 1 m² 2 mm
12 kg 8 L 1 m² 8 mm

Concrete Surface Preparation

Remove previous coatings, loose crumbly material and drummy areas before applying the epoxy repair compound.

  • New concrete must be at least 28 days old.
  • Remove oil and grease contamination using a suitable surface degreaser.
  • Hose off using high-pressure water.
  • Captive blast clean to expose firmly adhered aggregate.
  • Allow the surface to dry before application.
  • Scrub or wire brush soiled concrete before washing with clean water.
  • Allow the surface to dry after cleaning.
  • Prime porous concrete with EPIREZ® Epoxy Primer / Sealer before application.

Steel Surface Preparation

Steel surfaces should be thoroughly prepared before applying Multi-Purpose Epoxy Concrete Repair.

  • Abrasive blast clean to AS 1627 Part 4:2005.
  • Prepare to a Class 3 white-metal finish.
  • Achieve a minimum profile height of 75–100 microns.
  • Remove paint, rust and other contamination by wire brushing, grinding or abrasive blasting.
  • Remove grease and oil using a suitable solvent cleaner or surface degreaser.

Mixing Instructions

EPIREZ® Multi-Purpose Epoxy Concrete Repair uses an equal-part mixing ratio of Hardener and Compound.

  1. Measure equal amounts of Hardener and Compound.
  2. Mix using a broad knife, spatula or low-speed drill and mixing paddle.
  3. Continue mixing until the material reaches an even colour.
  4. Apply the mixed material to the prepared surface with pressure.

The pot life is approximately 45 minutes at 25°C, so prepare only the amount that can be applied within the available working time.

Application

Apply the mixed epoxy repair compound to the prepared surface using a trowel, working the material into the surface with pressure.

For a smooth finish, use a damp trowel to finish the surface.

Protect the repaired area from mechanical and chemical exposure until the material is fully cured.

Because the cured product has excellent adhesion, it can be difficult to remove after hardening. Protect adjoining surfaces with masking tape and remove the tape before the material hardens.

Drying and Cure Times

  • Pot life at 25°C: 45 minutes
  • Hardening time at 25°C: 6 hours
  • Cure time at 25°C: 24 hours

Bond Strength

EPIREZ® Multi-Purpose Epoxy Concrete Repair provides strong adhesion to several common construction substrates.

  • Concrete: 2.7 MPa, with substrate failure
  • Steel: 10 MPa
  • Timber: 5.0 MPa, with substrate failure

Mechanical and Water Resistance

  • Ultimate compressive strength: 60 MPa
  • Ultimate tensile strength: 12 MPa
  • Water permeability: 2.0 × 10-17 m·s-1
  • Water resistance: Good
  • Chemical resistance: Good

Important Product Limitations

  • Do not apply below 10°C.
  • New concrete must be at least 28 days old.
  • Porous concrete should be primed before application.
  • Protect the repaired area mechanically and chemically until fully cured.
  • Remove masking tape before the material hardens.

Storage and Shelf Life

  • Store in dry conditions between 10°C and 30°C.
  • Keep away from sources of heat and naked flames.
  • Protect from frost.
  • Minimum shelf life is two years when stored in original sealed containers.
