EPIREZ® Highway Patch is a quick-setting hydraulic cement patching mortar designed for fast concrete repairs. It provides high early strength, high bond strength and precision non-shrink performance for repair work where rapid return to service is important.
Highway Patch is designed for concrete repairs in transportation, commercial and industrial environments. It can be trowelled or poured into the repair area and finished by brooming, brushing or trowelling.
The material can also be extended with up to 60% pea gravel measuring 6–10 mm. This provides an economical way to increase the volume of the repair material without the excessive voids, reduced workability or long-term durability deterioration described for other extended patching materials.
Key Features and Benefits
- Quick-setting repair mortar: Designed for fast concrete repair applications.
- Rapid strength gain: Develops high early compressive strength.
- Non-shrink performance: Provides 0.0% shrinkage according to ASTM C-827.
- High bond strength: Bond strength reaches 27.6 MPa at 7 days.
- High chemical resistance: Resists oil, grease, gasoline, salts and other listed chemicals.
- Up to 60% extension: Can be extended with 6–10 mm pea gravel.
- Wet/dry resistance: Provides resistance to wet/dry conditions.
- Freeze/thaw resistance: Provides resistance for demanding patching environments.
- Flexible finishing: Can be broomed, brushed or trowelled after levelling.

Coverage and Kit Size
| Pack Size | Volume | Estimated Coverage | Application Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 kg | 8.0 L | 0.6 m² | 12.5 mm |
The 15 kg EPIREZ® Highway Patch pack provides approximately 0.6 m² at 12.5 mm thick.
Extending Highway Patch with Pea Gravel
EPIREZ® Highway Patch can be extended with up to 60% pea gravel measuring 6–10 mm.
The extension is designed to provide an economical way to increase the repair volume without creating excessive voids or reducing workability and long-term durability as described in the product information.
Surface Preparation
Existing concrete should be thoroughly prepared before applying Highway Patch.
- Remove oil and other deleterious substances.
- Remove all unsound or damaged concrete until sound, clean concrete is exposed.
- Remove loose material by wire brushing, washing and/or an oil-free jet.
- Thoroughly saturate the concrete with water two hours before application.
- Remove standing water immediately before patching.
Mixing Instructions
Mixing and placement temperatures must be above 5°C.
- Use a mortar mixer or suitable mixing paddle with a low-speed 400–1000 rpm power mixer.
- Wet down the mixer and drain excess water.
- With the mixer running, add the minimum recommended water.
- Add EPIREZ® Highway Patch.
- Mix for 2–5 minutes.
- Add more water only if required, without exceeding the maximum specified amount.
- Mix only the amount that can be placed within 10 minutes.
The water requirement is 1.5–2.0 L per 15 kg pail.
Application
EPIREZ® Highway Patch can be trowelled or poured into the prepared repair area.
After levelling, the surface can be finished by:
- Brooming
- Brushing
- Trowelling
Do not place Highway Patch in layers and do not feather edge the material.
Cold Weather Application
When using Highway Patch at or near freezing temperatures, store the material in the warmest practical location.
The patched area must remain above 5°C until Highway Patch has set.
Curing
As soon as the patch has hardened, flood the surface with sufficient water to keep it wet for at least 30 minutes.
If the patch will not be top-coated, use a concrete curing compound as part of the curing process.
Strength Development
EPIREZ® Highway Patch develops high early compressive strength, making it suitable for repair applications where early strength development is important.
| Age | Compressive Strength |
|---|---|
| 1 hour | 20.7 MPa |
| 3 hours | 34.4 MPa |
| 1 day | 48.3 MPa |
| 7 days | 58.6 MPa |
Bond Strength and Non-Shrink Performance
Highway Patch has a stated bond strength of 17.2 MPa at 1 day and 27.6 MPa at 7 days according to ASTM C-882.
Its volume change is stated as 0.0% shrinkage according to ASTM C-827.
Important Product Limitations
- Do not mix or place Highway Patch below 5°C.
- The patched area must remain above 5°C until the material has set.
- Do not mix more material than can be placed within 10 minutes.
- Do not exceed the maximum specified water addition.
- Do not place the material in layers.
- Do not feather edge Highway Patch.
- Protect the patch from freezing during setting.
Storage and Shelf Life
- Store in dry conditions between 10°C and 30°C.
- Protect from frost.
- Minimum shelf life is 12 months when stored in original sealed containers in dry conditions.
