EPIREZ Control Joint Sealant D5-070
EPIREZ Control Joint Sealant D5-070 is a flexible epoxy sealant designed for sealing construction and control joints in concrete. It is formulated to absorb mechanical stress and traffic movement while accommodating up to 10% total joint movement.
The self-levelling sealant flows smoothly into prepared joint grooves without tooling, making it suitable for a range of concrete floor and traffic areas. It provides good chemical resistance, excellent adhesion and resistance to short-term petrol and oil spills.
Control Joint Sealant D5-070 bonds to clean concrete, masonry and metal surfaces. Primer is normally not required, although priming is recommended for critical applications such as frequently wet conditions or polished and dense surfaces.

Coverage and Joint Size
| Product | Pack Size | Joint Size | Estimated Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| EPIREZ® Control Joint Sealant D5-070 | 4 L | 20 × 20 mm | 10 m |
Joint Design
The recommended sealant depth depends on the joint width.
| Joint Width | Sealant Depth / Width Ratio |
|---|---|
| 5–15 mm | 1.0:1 |
| 16–20 mm | 0.9:1 |
| Over 20 mm | 20 mm maximum depth |
Use closed-cell polyurethane backing rod or silicone release tape to help achieve the correct joint depth.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces should be clean and sound before applying Control Joint Sealant D5-070. Concrete should be at least 28 days old.
- Remove weak and damaged concrete.
- Repair damaged areas where necessary using suitable EPIREZ® Concrete Repair Products.
- Ensure surfaces are clean and free from contaminants.
- Control Joint Sealant D5-070 bonds to clean concrete, masonry and metal surfaces.
Priming is normally not required. For critical applications involving frequent wet conditions or polished and dense surfaces, prime with EPIREZ® Epoxy Primer / Sealer 123.
Repairing Existing Control Joints
When repairing an existing joint, remove the existing joint material and prepare the repair area before installing the new sealant.
- Saw-cut or grind a 5 mm square edge around the repair area.
- Prepare the surface so it is clean and sound.
- Form the repair using polyethylene sheet, wax-coated plywood or another non-stick material.
- Use EPIREZ® Multi-Purpose Epoxy Concrete Repair to replace missing concrete.
- After 16 hours, remove the form.
- Install foam backing rod to create the correct joint dimensions.
- Apply masking tape to the concrete surface to assist with clean-up.
- Fill the joint with EPIREZ® Control Joint Sealant.
- Remove the masking tape before the epoxy hardens.
Mixing Instructions
EPIREZ® Control Joint Sealant D5-070 uses a 1 part Hardener to 3 parts Compound mixing ratio by volume.
- Measure enough material to be used within the 30-minute work time.
- Mix using a low-speed power mixer at approximately 400 rpm.
- Ensure material from the container sides, lip and stirrer is fully incorporated.
- Avoid air entrapment during mixing.
- Keep the mixer propeller below the liquid line.
Full units are recommended because the components are pre-measured.
Drying and Cure Time
- Work time: 30 minutes
- Full cure: 24 hours at 25°C
Chemical and Petrol Resistance
EPIREZ® Control Joint Sealant D5-070 provides resistance to diluted acids and alkalis.
It also resists short-term petrol and oil spills and splashes.
Important Product Limitations
- Do not apply below 10°C.
- Concrete should be at least 28 days old.
