EPIREZ Concrete Etch & Cleaner
EPIREZ® Concrete Etch & Cleaner is a water-based concrete etching and cleaning solution designed to prepare concrete surfaces before coating. Its chloride-free formulation helps clean and etch concrete in one process, making it suitable for concrete preparation in epoxy flooring and other coating applications.
Concrete Etch & Cleaner removes light oil contamination and surface stains while etching the concrete surface. It is a non-hazardous alternative to hydrochloric (muriatic) acid and is not corrosive to steel reinforcement.
The product is particularly useful when preparing concrete for epoxy coatings, sealers and other surface treatment systems where a clean, properly prepared surface is required.
Key Features and Benefits
- Clean and etch in one process: Combines concrete cleaning and etching.
- Water-based: Supplied as a water-based concrete cleaning and etching solution.
- Chloride-free: Formulated without chloride ingredients.
- Non-hazardous: Provides an alternative to hydrochloric (muriatic) acid.
- Non-corrosive to steel: Not corrosive to steel reinforcement.
- Biodegradable: Listed as biodegradable in the product features.
- Removes light contamination: Helps remove light oil contamination and surface stains.
- Concrete preparation: Suitable for preparing concrete before coating.
What Is EPIREZ® Concrete Etch & Cleaner Used For?
EPIREZ® Concrete Etch & Cleaner is designed for three main concrete preparation applications:
- Concrete cleaning
- Preparing concrete for coating
- Concrete etching
It can be used as part of concrete preparation before applying epoxy coating systems where an etched and clean surface is required.
Coverage and Application Rate
| Product | Application Rate |
|---|---|
| EPIREZ® Concrete Etch & Cleaner | 1 litre per square metre |
How to Use EPIREZ® Concrete Etch & Cleaner
- Remove oil and grease deposits using a suitable surface degreaser.
- Lightly dampen the concrete.
- Apply Concrete Etch & Cleaner at approximately 1 litre per square metre.
- Use a plastic watering can to distribute the product over the surface.
- Agitate the surface thoroughly using a hard broom.
- Make sure frothing occurs across the entire area.
- Repeat the process in areas where frothing does not occur.
- When frothing has subsided, remove slush and dirt using a high-pressure water hose.
- Agitate the surface again during washing.
- Use a hard broom to remove loose grains and weakly held aggregate.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of the etching solution.
- Allow the concrete surface to dry thoroughly before coating.
Preparing Concrete for Epoxy Coatings
Good concrete preparation is an important part of an epoxy coating system. EPIREZ® Concrete Etch & Cleaner combines cleaning and etching in one process and can be used to prepare concrete before coating.
Before application, remove oil and grease deposits with a suitable surface degreaser. The concrete should then be lightly dampened before applying the Concrete Etch & Cleaner.
After the etching process, wash and rinse the surface thoroughly. Remove loose grains and weakly held aggregate with a hard broom and allow the concrete to dry completely before applying the coating system.
Important Surface Consideration
EPIREZ® Concrete Etch & Cleaner will etch and discolour aluminium and galvanising.
Take this into consideration where aluminium or galvanised surfaces are present in or around the area being prepared.
Clean Up
Tools and equipment used with EPIREZ® Concrete Etch & Cleaner can be cleaned using water.
Storage and Shelf Life
- Store in dry conditions between 10°C and 30°C.
- Keep away from sources of heat and naked flames.
- Protect from frost.
- Minimum shelf life is two years when stored in original sealed containers.
