EpiMax 999WB Concrete Protective Sealer

EpiMax 999WB Concrete Protective Sealer is a two-component, water based clear epoxy coating designed to protect concrete floors in commercial, industrial and general flooring environments.

It provides a practical way to seal prepared concrete and polished concrete surfaces, helping protect them from everyday contamination, marking and spills. Once sealed, the concrete surface is easier to clean and maintain, while the fully cross-linking epoxy system provides good surface integrity and durability.

EpiMax 999WB is a low odour, water based system that can be applied by roller or airless spray. It is self-priming and can be used across a range of concrete flooring applications including warehouses, factories, parking facilities, retail areas, plant rooms and other commercial environments.

The clear satin finish allows the character of the concrete to remain visible while providing a protective coating over the prepared surface.

  • Restaurants

It can also be used as a general-purpose clear protection system for polished concrete floors and for structural particleboard flooring where specified.

Why Seal Concrete with EpiMax 999WB?

Unprotected concrete can be affected by everyday contamination and chemical exposure. As the surface deteriorates, problems such as staining, dusting and increased cleaning difficulty can develop.

EpiMax 999WB creates a protective coating over the prepared surface. The resulting sealed floor is described as non-porous, monolithic, chemically inert and hygienic, making the surface easier to clean and maintain.

The coating also provides good resistance to materials handling equipment and automotive fluid staining according to the supplied technical information.

Coverage and Kit Sizes

EpiMax 999WB is applied in two coats at approximately 12–14 m² per litre per coat.

Pack Size Estimated Coverage
3 litre Approximately 18 m² over 2 coats
20 litre Approximately 120 m² over 2 coats
60 litre Approximately 360 m² over 2 coats
600 litre Approximately 3,600 m² over 2 coats

Coverage is an estimate based on the supplied two-coat application data. Actual coverage will depend on the surface and application conditions.

Application of EpiMax 999WB

EpiMax 999WB is designed for straightforward application to properly prepared surfaces.

  1. Prepare the surface to the required standard and ensure it is clean and dry.
  2. Plan the application area so the correct volume of mixed material can be applied over the measured area.
  3. Use a slow-speed mechanical mixer at approximately 400 rpm.
  4. Add Part B to Part A and mix until uniform.
  5. For the first coat, up to 10% potable water can be added if required to adjust viscosity.
  6. Apply an even first coat at 12–14 m² per litre.
  7. When the first coat is clear and dry to touch, apply the second coat at 12–14 m² per litre.

EpiMax 999WB can be applied using a roller or airless spray.

Consistent application rates are important because uneven application may result in inconsistencies in the colour of the concrete.

Mixing Instructions

The standard EpiMax 999WB system uses a 2:1 mix ratio by volume.

  1. Use a slow-speed mechanical mixer at approximately 400 rpm.
  2. Add EpiMax 999WB Part B to Part A.
  3. Mix until the material is uniform.
  4. For the first coat, add up to 10% potable water if required to adjust viscosity.

Adding water to the first coat will reduce the final film build.

The hardening process occurs in two stages. First, the contained water evaporates, followed by chemical hardening. Good airflow assists the water evaporation stage.

The work time can be difficult to determine visually, so actual mixing and application time should always be monitored.

Concrete Surface Preparation

Proper preparation is essential before applying EpiMax 999WB.

  • Ensure the surface is clean and dry.
  • Remove additives, curing agents, oils and other contamination.
  • Prepare the concrete by professional diamond grinding.
  • The surface profile should exceed CSP 1.
  • Allow wet surfaces to dry before coating.
  • Always confirm preparation adequacy before application.

Polished Concrete Applications

EpiMax 999WB can be used as a protective sealer over polished concrete.

Polished concrete is progressively ground using diamond abrasives to achieve the desired degree of smoothness and finish. Once prepared, the surface can be protected with EpiMax 999WB to improve durability and provide a sealed, easier-to-maintain surface.

Apply two coats at 12–14 m² per litre per coat and maintain the finished floor with appropriate cleaning equipment.

Parking Facility Concrete Protection

For parking facility applications, prepare the concrete to exceed CSP 1 and address surface defects as required.

  • Consider slip resistance requirements before application.
  • Apply two coats at 12–14 m² per litre per coat.
  • Line mark and install wheel stops as required.
  • Clean regularly using a power sweeper and scrubber drier.

Warehouse Concrete Protection

For warehouse floors, prepare the concrete to exceed CSP 1 and ensure the surface is dry and properly prepared.

  • Consider slip resistance requirements, particularly on dense slab finishes.
  • Apply two coats at 12–14 m² per litre per coat.
  • Rack and line mark as required.
  • Clean regularly using a power sweeper and scrubber drier.

Structural Particleboard Flooring

EpiMax 999WB is also formulated for structural particleboard performance flooring.

  • Sand the particleboard to ensure adhesion.
  • For general-purpose sanding, use 40–60 grit closed-coat paper.
  • Apply two coats at 12–14 m² per litre per coat.

Over-Coating Existing EpiMax Coatings

EpiMax 999WB can be used over previously applied EpiMax coatings when the existing coating is less than two days old.

  • Ensure the existing coating is clean and dry.
  • Remove any contamination.
  • Apply two coats at 12–14 m² per litre per coat.

Drying and Cure Times

  • Work time: 60 minutes at 25°C.
  • Tack-free time: 90–120 minutes at 25°C, depending on airflow.
  • Recoat window: 6–48 hours at 25°C, depending on airflow.
  • Rain fast: 24 hours at 25°C.
  • Light traffic: 12–24 hours at 25°C, depending on airflow.
  • Full cure: 5 days at 25°C.

Slip Resistance

EpiMax 999WB has a stated wet pendulum slip rating of P3 when tested with 80 mesh aluminium oxide according to AS 4586:2013.

Site slip resistance requirements should be considered before application, particularly in areas where floor conditions or use may require additional traction.

Certain types of tyres can leave tyre stains on garage floors. Where tyre-marking resistance is important, a localised test area is recommended before full application.
