EpiMax 920 Solvent Based PU Hybrid Sealer
EpiMax 920 Solvent Based PU Hybrid Sealer is a two-pack, fully cross-linking, non-yellowing protective finish for internal and external concrete. It is designed for high-traffic floors and provides excellent wear resistance with good mechanical, scuffing and chemical resistance.
The coating helps reduce staining from materials including oil, grease, food spills and many chemicals, creating a low-maintenance, abrasion-resistant protective finish.
EpiMax 920 can also be used for external concrete wall coatings, including applications intended to protect concrete from carbonation and chloride ion entry in tropical marine environments. Its non-yellowing coating chemistry provides external durability.
EpiMax 920 is available in clear and coloured versions. Clear versions are available in gloss and satin finishes. EpiMax 920 Type 2 is also available for projects requiring enhanced durability.

Coverage and Kit Sizes
Coverage depends on whether the concrete is sealed or unsealed. The datasheet provides the following estimating figures:
| Surface | Estimating Coverage |
|---|---|
| Unsealed surfaces | Approximately 5–7 m²/L |
| Sealed surfaces | Approximately 7–9 m²/L |
For flooring applications on unsealed surfaces, the recommended application rate is 4–6 m²/L. Apply in two coats while observing the specified recoat window.
EpiMax 920 is available in 20 litre kits.
Application of EpiMax 920 Solvent Based PU Hybrid Sealer
Before application, review the sub-floor area and determine the fixed volume of mixed material required for the area being coated. This helps maintain the correct application rate.
- Use a 10–12 mm nap roller for flooring applications.
- Apply at 4–6 m²/L on unsealed surfaces.
- Apply two coats, observing the 6–12 hour recoat window at 25°C.
- Non-slip finishes can be achieved by incorporating suitable EpiMax Aggregates.
- Use a slow-speed mechanical mixer operating at approximately 400 rpm.
Mixing Instructions
- Combine 3 parts Part A with 1 part Part B by volume.
- Mix using a slow-speed mechanical mixer at approximately 400 rpm.
- Mix thoroughly for 3–4 minutes until the material is uniform.
- Apply the mixed product within its 45-minute work time at 25°C.
Concrete Surface Preparation
- Concrete should be at least 28 days old.
- Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from additives, curing agents, oils and other contaminants.
- Prepare the surface as necessary using professional diamond grinding or captive blast cleaning.
- The preparation should expose firmly held aggregate where applicable.
- Allow wet surfaces to dry before application.
- Always confirm that surface preparation is adequate before coating.
- The surface profile should exceed CSP 2.
Over-Coating Existing Coatings
- When sealing freshly applied epoxy coatings, apply EpiMax 920 within the specified recoat window.
- When sealing old epoxy coatings, sand the existing coating first.
- Confirm adhesion in a test area before proceeding with the full application.
Drying and Cure Times
At 25°C, the stated drying and curing times are:
- Work time: 45 minutes.
- Touch dry: Approximately 2–3 hours.
- Recoat window: 6–12 hours.
- Foot traffic: 24–48 hours.
- Vehicle traffic: Minimum 72 hours.
- Full solvent resistance: 7 days.
Chemical Resistance
EpiMax 920 provides good chemical resistance and can reduce staining from materials including:
- Oil.
- Grease.
- Food spills.
- Many chemicals.
The coating also provides an abrasion-resistant protective surface designed to reduce maintenance requirements.
External Concrete Protection
EpiMax 920 is suitable for external wall coatings protecting concrete from carbonation and chloride ion entry in tropical marine environments. Its non-yellowing coating chemistry is intended to provide external durability.
The technical information states that, with professional application, EpiMax 920 can allow reduced concrete cover in Coastal, B2 exposure classification areas as per AS 3600.
Temperature and Application Conditions
The supplied technical information provides application and performance times at 25°C. Work time, touch-dry time, recoat window and traffic access figures should therefore be considered in relation to the stated 25°C test condition.
Important Product Limitations
- EpiMax 920 is solvent based as supplied, so suitable precautions are required during application.
- Concrete should be at least 28 days old before application.
- The surface must be clean and dry and free from additives, curing agents, oils and other contaminants.
- Surface preparation should achieve a profile exceeding CSP 2.
- Old epoxy coatings should be sanded and adhesion confirmed in a test area before over-coating.
- Housekeeping is important for maintaining safe floor surfaces.
- Certain tyre types can leave tyre stains on garage floors. Localised testing is recommended to confirm tyre-marking resistance.
- Due to variations in tyre composition and age, the supplied technical information provides no warranty regarding coating performance and tyre-staining potential.
- Read the Safety Data Sheet before commencing application.
- Adequate personal protection and ventilation are required, particularly in confined spaces.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular housekeeping is important for keeping coated floor surfaces safe and maintaining their condition.
- Vacuum, wash, scrub or sweep regularly in accordance with site recommendations.
- Mechanical sweepers and scrubbers can provide effective cleaning results.
- Verify that cleaning frequency and effectiveness are appropriate for the site conditions.
- Remove spills immediately, scrub the affected area and allow the floor to dry completely.
Storage and Shelf Life
The supplied technical information does not specify a storage temperature, storage conditions or shelf life. These details should therefore be confirmed from the current technical and safety documentation before purchase or application.
Important: Always read the current manufacturer's Technical Data Sheet before mixing, surface preparation or application.
