The 4-Step Professional Process

To achieve a finish that can withstand a workshop environment, we recommend following the industry-standard application process:

• Prep: This is the most critical stage. The concrete must be clean, dry, and porous. We recommend diamond grinding to open the pores of the concrete, ensuring the epoxy can "root" itself into the slab.
• Prime: A dedicated epoxy primer acts as the bridge between your concrete and the coating. It penetrates deep into the surface, sealing the slab and preventing air bubbles (outgassing) in your final finish. Common systems include UltraKote Ultra Primer and Sikafloor 161 epoxy primer.
• Basecoat: This is your main build layer. Whether you are going for a solid colour or a flake system, the basecoat provides the durability, thickness, and primary protection for the floor. Using 100% solids epoxy resins in workshop environments—such as UltraKote Ultrashield and Sikafloor 264—ensures long-term durability and resistance to heavy use.
• Topcoat: The final layer is your shield. For workshops, we recommend UV-stable polyurethane topcoats such as UVSeal and Sikafloor 359AU, or polyaspartic systems like PureGuard Polyaspartic and Sikafloor 550PA. These provide superior resistance to chemicals, oils, and scratching while ensuring the floor doesn't yellow over time.
