Brushable Ceramic is a high-performance, ceramic-filled epoxy coating designed to seal, protect and repair surfaces exposed to erosion, corrosion and wear.
Its low-viscosity, self-levelling formulation can be applied using a short-bristle brush or roller. It is designed for industrial equipment including pump casings, impeller blades, gate valves, water boxes and fan blades, as well as heat exchangers, tube sheets and other water-circulating equipment.
Brushable Ceramic can also be used as a topcoat over repaired surfaces or to seal and protect new equipment exposed to erosion and corrosion.

Application of Brushable Ceramic
Apply two thin coats of Brushable Ceramic at approximately 8–15 mils to help ensure the substrate is free from pinholes and holidays.
A low-voltage holiday detector can be used to check the coating for pinholes.
Brushable Ceramic can be applied using:
- Short-bristle brush
- Roller
Brushable Ceramic reaches functional cure in approximately 16 hours, after which it can be machined, drilled or painted.
Greater Coating Thickness
For greater thickness, Brushable Ceramic can be used in combination with Ceramic Repair Putty.
For proper wear and adhesion, the combined coating thickness should not exceed 40 mils.
Surface Preparation
Thorough surface preparation is important for achieving strong adhesion.
- Clean the surface with isopropanol alcohol or acetone to remove oil, grease and dirt.
- Grit blast using 8–40 mesh grit or grind with a coarse wheel or abrasive disc pad.
- Create a surface profile of approximately 3–5 mils with defined edges.
- Do not feather-edge existing epoxy.
- Clean the surface again to remove oil, grease, dust and other contaminants.
- Repair the surface as soon as possible after preparation to minimise contamination.
For metals exposed to seawater or other salt solutions, grit blast and high-pressure water blast the area, then leave it overnight. Repeat blasting to remove soluble salts and perform a chloride contamination test. Soluble salt content should be no more than 40 ppm.
Working Conditions
The ideal application temperature for Brushable Ceramic is 13°C to 32°C.
In cold working conditions, heat the repair area to approximately 38°C to 43°C before application and maintain this temperature during cure. This helps remove moisture, contamination and solvents and supports maximum performance properties.
Applying epoxy below 21°C lengthens functional cure and pot life times. Applying above 21°C shortens them.
Mixing Instructions
Brushable Ceramic has a mixing ratio of 3.4:1 by volume and 5.6:1 by weight.
- Add the Hardener to the Resin.
- Mix thoroughly using a screwdriver or similar tool.
- Continuously scrape material from the sides and bottom of the container.
- Continue mixing until a uniform, streak-free consistency is achieved.
For 3 lb, 4 lb, 25 lb and corresponding metric kits, a suitable propeller-type Jiffy Mixer on an electric drill can be used. Mix until the colour is uniform.
Keep the mixer propeller below the liquid line to minimise air entrapment and bubbles.
Applying the epoxy below 21°C lengthens functional cure and pot life times, while higher temperatures shorten them.
Temperature Resistance
Brushable Ceramic has a stated service temperature of up to 177°C (350°F).
Important Product Considerations
- Apply two thin coats at approximately 8–15 mils.
- Maximum combined thickness with Ceramic Repair Putty should not exceed 40 mils.
- Ideal application temperature is 13°C to 32°C.
- Cold applications may require heating of the repair area.
- Below 21°C, functional cure and pot life times increase.
