Recommended Preparation Method
Preparation is the key to achieving a long-lasting floor-coating system.
Diamond grinding is the recommended method of preparing new and old substrates prior to applying Sikafloor 264. The purpose is to remove flaking paint and contamination, open concrete pores, and allow the first coat to penetrate deep into the surface.
Acid etching may be used as an alternative. Click here for more information. Hydrochloric acid is available from pool shops or local hardware stores.
Recommended Diamond Tooling Grits
- 30/40 grit for hard concrete
- 80 grit for soft concrete
- PCD plugs to remove flaking paint, then grinding shoes to smooth the floor

Frequently Asked Questions
How much floor area does one 20kg kit cover?
One 20kg kit covers up to 70sqm per coat when applied with an 11–12mm nap roller. For two coats on a floor up to 30sqm, one kit is sufficient. For 30–60sqm, you'll need two kits, and for 60–90sqm, three kits. Coverage may vary depending on the porosity of your concrete surface.
Does this kit include everything I need to apply the epoxy?
This kit includes the Sikafloor 264 epoxy resin and two pigment packs. It does not include application accessories such as rollers, brushes, spike shoes, or thinners. We recommend checking out our complete epoxy flooring packages which include all accessories, or contact us and we can help you put together the right kit for your project.
How long does Sikafloor 264 take to dry?
At 20°C, Sikafloor 264 is touch dry within 4–6 hours. Light foot traffic is possible after 24 hours. Full chemical resistance and hardness is achieved after 7 days. Avoid vehicle traffic for a minimum of 5–7 days after the final coat.
Do I need to prepare my concrete floor before applying?
Yes — surface preparation is the most critical step. Diamond grinding is strongly recommended to open the concrete pores and remove any existing sealers, paint, or contaminants. Acid etching can be used as an alternative for smaller or less demanding projects.
Can I add anti-slip media to this product?
Yes. Anti-slip media can be broadcast into the wet epoxy or mixed into the final coat to achieve a slip-resistant surface. Depending on the slip rating required (R10, R11, R12), different grit sizes are recommended — refer to the slip resistance guide above or contact us for advice.
Is Sikafloor 264 suitable for garage floors with hot tyre traffic?
Yes — Sikafloor 264 has excellent hot tyre pick-up resistance, making it one of the most popular choices for residential garages and commercial workshops. It is also highly resistant to fuel, chemicals, and abrasion.
Can I pick this up from your store?
Yes! Local pickup is available from our Silverwater showroom at 6 Giffard Street, Silverwater NSW 2128. We also ship Australia-wide with same-day dispatch on most orders.
What if I need help during my application?
